The legal requirements for your automatic driveway gates
Do you know the legal requirements for your automatic driveway gates?
All of our automated gates are manufactured according to a strict process and meet
all legal requirements. We also strongly recommend regular maintenance and
servicing, which we can provide, to ensure your system remains safe and legally
compliant after installation.
In 2010, two children lost their lives due to faulty automated gates, in separate
incidents. Here at Ironcraft, we take gate safety incredibly seriously – in fact, we are
proud to be an official Gate Safe Installer. We are also accredited by a number of
leading health and safety construction and gate safety organisations.
That means if your automated gates were made and fitted by our expert team, you’re in safe hands.
Under the current Machinery Directives Regulations and EN12605, it is now a legal
requirement that automation systems are fully compliant when installed, and are
subject to regular service procedures thereafter. As such, our automated gates all
come with a 12-month guarantee, and once this has expired we offer a choice of
annual maintenance reminders. We feel that this is a hugely important issue, and
regular services ensure that your system remains safe and legal. It is important to
service your gate, especially in a domestic setting, as they are often used more
frequently.
The full safety service includes:
● Greasing all motor parts and gate hinges
● Cleaning all safety equipment, including photocells
● Checking all hardware, nuts, fixings and welding, checking and adjusting any
settings and differences in alignment
● Multipoint Force Test that includes logging results and raising paperwork,
computer analysis for safety against crushing, and a full assessment of other
potential risk areas involving safety against pedestrian entrapment and
possible crushing zones.
● Cleaning of all accessories, keypads, intercoms and locks, and the cleaning
and lubricating of manual release mechanisms.
We also encourage you to check your gates regularly for any obvious wear and tear
yourself and we can then arrange a service if you notice anything that’s not right. By
carrying out automated gate repairs as and when required, you will help to keep your
gates working safely at all times, as well as staying compliant with all laws and safety
standards.
