Ironcraft celebrates The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
In 2012, we were honoured to be asked to create a sign for the bandstand in Argents Mead Park, Hinckley, to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee. This year, Hinckley and Bosworth Council approached us to create a new sign for the other side of the bandstand, in honour of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It goes without saying that we were delighted to be involved!
Over the years, the Diamond Jubilee sign had deteriorated so much that it was in need of refurbishment. To ready it in time to be hung alongside the new Platinum Jubilee sign, we took it down to be shot-blasted and plated in zinc and yellow, to slow down the development of rust. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the product and the potential for warping, the sign couldn’t go through the usual process of galvanising to prevent corrosion – but zinc and yellow will help to prolong the life of the metal, significantly slowing down the corrosion process by keeping moisture from reaching the base metal.
While the Diamond Jubilee sign was undergoing this restoration work, we manufactured a new sign to match the style of the old one, but included the new celebration dates on it. This was then coated in zinc and yellow, before both signs were powder-coated and highlighted in gold. Our team then completed the installation.
The installation was unveiled on 26 May 2022 by the Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth, Cllr Dawn Glenville, in recognition of this unprecedented anniversary.
Everyone at Ironcraft would like to congratulate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the event of her Platinum Jubilee, and we hope everyone enjoys the celebrations over the long weekend!
